Resolved Question: Can't ping my server but my server can ping everything?

5 August 2010, 5:19 am

Its a real techie question! Heres the Details : I have : VMWare 4.0 ESXi Running MS SBS 2003 I had a power cut yesterday and since then i've lost connectivity, The server can contact everything on the network either by Ping Ip Addy or Netbios name but nothing on the network can contact the Server. Everything can ping the VM box so i dont think its an issue with VM more an issue with the SBS. I cannot remote desktop to the server but i can access the server through the VMSphere console Here's what i've done to no avail, Restarted the DHCP and DNS Servers Ensure all firewalls are off. Changed the NIC and Switch Installed a new VM NIC Changed Ip addresses Checked windows updates regarding an issue with a patch for SP2 which changed the TCP stacks and caused this exact issue (unfortunately a no go) Tried static IP's on the pc's rather than DHCP. Tried using a router as DHCP server. All to No avail. :( if someone can help me sort this i'll owe them a few pints! Yup i've disabled the SBS Firewall, (Theres a HW firewall in place ut i've taken that out of the equation) I'm using SBS as a DHCP and DNS server, all VMWare is doing is hosting the guest operating system, its defo a problem with SBS rather than VM as i've pulled the server onto another VM Box as a test. The SBS server thinks theres no problem as it can access the network fine, its the network thats having issues with the server...... Read More »
