Resolved Question: ftp/smtp connection refused in nagios?

hello. the ftp and smtp services on my localhost (ubuntu 9.10 in vm) gave me 'Connection refused' Critical status. what should i do? i tried to install the ftp server into the ubuntu from here > http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=1185 but can't , i got the error downloading it from web on the terminal. what should i do to get rid of the error? thanks...
